Introduction

The complexity and heterogeneity of Earth observations has increased and, as such, NASA made the strategic decision to become ISO 19115 compliant. This has the advantage of providing an internationally recognized metadata standard for NASA observations. Conformance with the standard requires careful documentation and a shared vocabulary. The result is increased capacity for data discovery, archiving, exploitation and, ultimately, interoperability. The use of ISO 19115 can increase the transparency associated with compliant science products. By carefully documenting methodologies, relationships to science themes and potential uncertainties, NASA has dedicated itself to ensuring the utility of its observations and their integration into the long-term science record.

The goal of this area is to enable ISO 19115 conformance at NASA by providing informational resources on ISO metadata and its evolution at NASA. The site will provide a framework for the transparent exchange of ideas and collaboration between stakeholders in the NASA community.
