Subject:

CMR Legacy Services Retirement

What's Happening:

To facilitate the planned retirement of CMR's Legacy Services codebase, Order Management and Object CRUD functionality is being migrated to CMR Core. In addition, ECHO Tokens are being retired and replaced with Launchpad and Earthdata Login (EDL) tokens. Once Legacy Services is retired, users and clients will be required to use CMR Core.

Action Needed:

If you are not using CMR Legacy Services endpoints, no action is needed.

For Using CMR Legacy Services Endpoints for Order Management

  • If you are using CMR Legacy Services endpoints, you will need to transition to use the new CMR endpoints.
    • To transition to the new endpoints, see 'LINK COMING SOON'.
  • If you do not ingest metadata in CMR for Order Management, no action is needed.
  • If you ingest metadata in CMR for Order Management, you will need to use the new metadata schemas.
    • Data Quality Summaries and Order Options are the metadata schemas used for Order Management.
    • CMR will migrate existing metadata out of Legacy Services.

For Using MMT for Order Management

  • If you are using MMT for Order Management, no action is needed.
    • MMT will automatically support the new CMR endpoints.

For ECHO Tokens

  • Ingest
    • If you are using Launchpad tokens for CMR ingest, no action needed.
    • If you are using EDL or ECHO tokens for CMR ingest, you will need to transition to use Launchpad tokens.
  • Search
    • If you are using ECHO tokens for search, you will need to transition to use EDL tokens.

For more information on using Launchpad or Earthdata Login (EDL) tokens when sending requests to the CMR, see CMR To Retire ECHO Tokens for Ingest and Search Operations

Timeline:

To avoid disruption of CMR operations, users and clients should migrate away from using Legacy Services no later than March 2023.

The CMR team will be reaching out to providers during PI 23.1 to test disabling Legacy Services endpoints, including ECHO tokens, in UAT to prepare for retirement in Production. More details on this test will be forthcoming.

Who Is Affected:

All users and clients that currently use CMR Legacy Services endpoints.
