Evaluation Target: UMM-Common Required Recommendation
The Unified Metadata Model Common (UMM-Common) specification describes documentation concepts that are common to NASA metadata collections. The purpose of the model is to the provide NASA science community with metadata creation guidance. The model considers existing NASA earth science metadata implementations and standards. The standards considered include:
- Directory Interchange Format (DIF) versions 9 and 10
- Earth Observing System (EOS) Clearing House (ECHO) version 10 for Collection and Granule
- Service Entry Resource Format (SERF)
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 19115-2
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 19115-1
The UMM-Common specification includes both required and optional documentation concepts.
This Quick Evaluation shows the distribution of required UMM-Common concepts in 16 metadata collections (see Table 1) extracted from the Common Metadata Repository (CMR) during October 2015.
