  • Demo from EED on how they want to update CMR to accomdate DOIs
    • How are DOIs being utlized in CMR? - Up to this point, CMR supports a single DOI
      • Looking to support multiple DOIs
        • Allow end users to disover all collections associated with a partoiclar project or campaign
        • Allow end users to cite a single DOI for a group of related data
      • Discussed acceptance criteria for multple DOIs
      • A lot of interest in potential use cases
        • Referencing the main DOI instead of all the individual DOIs
        • Indexing... pull up a bunch of related references using one DOI
      • Regarding the Associated DOI list
        • from Debrah Smith -

          • is there no description or title associated with the associated DOIs? That would be helpful to distinguish them when there are multiple associated DOIs

          • I think ED Search users would need some instructions if they are going to know that the associated DOIs are pointing them to additional data resources. And to go back to Deborah's point, without knowing how they're related, it might not be as useful as it could be.

          • collection is such a multi use term.. How about we say data product and group of data products, and associated products?

        • from Nitin Arora -
          • I imagine they can pull the description for each associated DOI from CMR when the page builds so it's easy to get context.
        • from Beth Huffer -
          •  I'm really unclear about how to make use of this. If I create a doi for group of products, then should each product in the group have that doi as an associated doi? Or should I just list the dois for each member product in the associated doi field for each member?
          •  We might need some strict policies about how these associations can be used

        • from Amanda Leon
          • I'm generally concerned about the concept of a DOI to represent a group of data products. That's why I'm here today listing associated DOIs is a different thing in my mind (but also concerning due to maintenance)

    • Issue of maintenance was raised
      • How do you update a DOI in a collection?  Who will update that info?
      • Valerie commented that they are currently working on various potential options that could reduce maintenance... so don't assume the maintenance is going to be cumbersome, time, and resource consuming... as other methods are coming down the Pike.
