Introduction

This wiki resource provides comprehensive documentation for all metadata supported by the Common Metadata Repository (CMR), and is intended to support metadata authors as well as anyone seeking general information about the CMR supported metadata concepts. The wiki is organized by metadata concept as specified in the Unified Metadata Model (UMM) and includes information such as: which metadata fields are required, definitions for each metadata concept, best practices for populating each metadata field, guidance on how to use controlled vocabularies, and the revision history of the UMM metadata schema. Also included are a detailed mapping/crosswalk between each UMM metadata field and the corresponding field in each CMR supported metadata standard. Supported standards currently include ECHO 10, DIF 10, ISO 19115-2 (in NASA specific MENDS and SMAP "flavors"), and ISO 19115-1.

Common

The Unified Metadata Model (UMM) is used as a bridge to map between each of the CMR-supported metadata standards. Within EOSDIS, a A number of different objects require descriptive metadata that is modeled using a corresponding UMM profile. For example, collection and granule objects are modeled using the UMM-C and UMM-G profiles, respectively. While UMM-C and UMM-G are separate entities, some elements are common to each profile and are therefore modeled using UMM-Common. In this section, we break down the main differences between This documentation currently only covers elements provided in the UMM-C and , UMM-G and discuss the overlapping UMM-Common elements.UMM-Common models. For information regarding any of the other UMM profiles (UMM-S, UMM-Var, etc.), please see <insert link here>.
