OB.DAAC Updates

cloud initiative, web unification, Earth Science to Action

• Data access in cloud - tutorials (oceancolor, PACE HACKAWEEK), AWS (Openscapes)
• Cloud initiative 
  • currently migrating missions other than PACE
  • updating L1 data format of CZCS, SeaWiFS, OCTS from HDF5 to netcdf4
  • We are not keeping the previous reprocessed data - new ones replace the olds
    
    • But keeping l1 files, and the processing code of different versions, but the ancillary data could be updated. So, no 100% reproduce of previous version
    • Concern: no way to reproduce results based on previous reprocessed data
• Web unification - potential influence to current users
  • definition of different levels - should be unified cross DAACs?
  • MODIS L1B data from LAADS and OB
    
    • We, OBPG, do not directly offer L1B data; instead, we provide the processing code l1bgen, which is based on MODAPS and features improved LUTs from the MODIS Calibration Support Team (MCST) and enhanced calibration for ocean remote sensing reflectance.
• Earth science to action - what is it, and anything UWG envision?
  • develop some more simplified products - such as disasters, GIOVANI tool (for simple and quick display), fisheries, water quality
  • continue the development of training materials, tutorials
