  • DOI System Update - Lalit
    • Made a direct link from the Wiki to the database for DOI reports .  So far working as expected
    • Reviewed changes that DOI team would implement - Submission by XML only - as opposed to XML, excel spreadsheet, CSV, and tab dilineated - doi_evolution_jun2021.pptx
      • Questions:
        • Is there an example template - Yes, ON Wiki;
        • What is the major difference between this template and the ones that are currently available?  Major change is in processing.  There is no change in the metadata
        • Is the DOI database in CMR or separate from CMR?  It is currently separate... but discussions are ongoing about potentially merging them
        • Excel File is much clearner looking than and XML file... making this change may add some clutter - Perhaps it would help to create a tool to convert the excel spreadsheets to XML.  Lalit says this is a possibility and he will look into it
        • That XML method might work well for submitting one DOI at a time, but the Spreadsheet (it doesn't have to be proprietary MS Excel) method is much better suited to uploading bulk DOIs.
      • Next step is to write up a white paper proposing this change to ESDIS

  • DAAC Feedback to DOI Issues Document
    • 6 DAAC-related Qs - no comments or questions
    • 5 System-related Qs - no comments or questions
    • 3 DAAC responses (NSIDC, GESDISC, ORNL) - no comments or questions

  • Common Qs for DAAC PIs and UWG members to assess Need for Data Group DOIs
    • Grouping Qs by community
      • many people did not get the link
      • Several poeple requested additional time to look over it and comment
      • Nate requested that all feedback be left in the document
    • There was some discussion from various people about several of the bullets on that document - specifically with response to what the group DOIs will be referencing and what will be required of the DAAC if they choose not to participate in group DOIs
    • Concensus seems to be that each DAAC should have the ability to make that decision over their own DOIs.  Then work together and respect each others positions with respect to crossovers
    • NSIDC in particular does not want any external maintenance obligations due to other DAACs using Group DOIs... if they choose not to use group DOIs
      • Nate has clearly stated that Group DOIs must be restricted to products under the pervue of the DAAC
      • Also... the individual DOI does not have to refer back to the group - should not be a requirement

  • DAAC Use Cases and Examples
    • Looking for Use Cases that help us address the System-Related Qs in the Issues Document
    • GESDISC
      • CMS dataset w 63 variables for 63 different files
      • TROPESS Pathfinder DOIs - TES Chemical Reanalysis Products
    • ORNL - handling versioning for merged datasets (eg. ATom)
    • Nate requested that people please comment/add use cases to documents
