Element Description
The Granule UR element provides the universal reference id identifier of the granule, which is assigned by the data provider. As a result, the id will vary from granule to granule. The Id should be unique per data provider.
Best Practices
EssentiallyTypically, the Granule UR should will match the granule's long name.
Examples:
file name. However, other identifying information may be included. The UR must be completely unique when compared to all other data from the same provider (i.e. datasets with the same provider Id in CMR).
Examples:Granule Long Name: AIRS2CCF_NRT.006:AIRS.2018.10.18.189.L2.CC_IR.v6.0.31.0.R18291162512.hdf
Granule UR: AIRS2CCF_NRT.006:AIRS.2018.10.18.189.L2.CC_IR.v6.0.31.0.R18291162512.hdfGranule Long Name: MA_AMSUA_NOAA17_OMF.001:merra.mon_stdv3d_amsua_noaa17_omf.200212_06z.nc
Granule UR: MA_AMSUA_NOAA17_OMF.001:merra.mon_stdv3d_amsua_noaa17_omf.200212_06z.nc

Metadata Validation and QA/QC
All metadata entering the CMR goes through the below process to ensure metadata quality requirements are met. All records undergo CMR validation before entering the system. The process of QA/QC is slightly different for NASA and non-NASA data providers. Non-NASA providers include interagency and international data providers and are referred to as the International Directory Network (IDN).

Providing the Quality element is optional (Cardinality: 0..1)
Both ISO conventions (19115-1 & 2) have sub-fielded text that more precisely describe the quality assessment of a resource. Please refer to ISO 19157 (Geographic information – Data quality) for more information about data quality in ISO. |
