Element Description

The Granule UR element provides the universal reference id identifier of the granule, which is assigned by the data provider. As a result, this id is The Id should be unique per data provider.

Best Practices

Typically, the Granule UR will match the granule's file name. However, other identifying information may be included. The UR must be completely unique when compared to all other data from the same provider (i.e. datasets with the same provider Id in CMR).

Metadata Validation and QA/QC

All metadata entering the CMR goes through the below process to ensure metadata quality requirements are met. All records undergo CMR validation before entering the system. The process of QA/QC is slightly different for NASA and non-NASA data providers. Non-NASA providers include interagency and international data providers and are referred to as the International Directory Network (IDN).
