Element Description

The Granule UR element provides the universal reference id identifier of the granule, which is assigned by the data provider. As a result, the id will vary from granule to granule.The Id should be unique per data provider.

Best Practices

EssentiallyTypically, the Granule UR should will match the granule's long name.

Examples:

file name. However, other identifying information may be included. The UR must be completely unique when compared to all other data from the same provider (i.e. datasets with the same provider Id in CMR).

Examples:Granule Long Name: AIRS2CCF_NRT.006:AIRS.2018.10.18.189.L2.CC_IR.v6.0.31.0.R18291162512.hdf

Granule UR: AIRS2CCF_NRT.006:AIRS.2018.10.18.189.L2.CC_IR.v6.0.31.0.R18291162512.hdf

Granule Long Name: MA_AMSUA_NOAA17_OMF.001:merra.mon_stdv3d_amsua_noaa17_omf.200212_06z.ncGranule UR: MA_AMSUA_NOAA17_OMF.001:merra.mon_stdv3d_amsua_noaa17_omf.200212_06z.nc

Metadata Validation and QA/QC

All metadata entering the CMR goes through the below process to ensure metadata quality requirements are met. All records undergo CMR validation before entering the system. The process of QA/QC is slightly different for NASA and non-NASA data providers. Non-NASA providers include interagency and international data providers and are referred to as the International Directory Network (IDN).

ARC Priority Matrix

This element is categorized as low priority when:

A URL provided in the Quality element is a re-direct link (this includes re-directs from http to https).
Priority CategorizationJustification

Red = High Priority Finding

This element is categorized as highest priority when:

  • The Quality description contains a spelling or grammatical errorNo Granule UR is provided.
  • The element is being used incorrectly (i.e. for a purpose other than describing data quality).
  • A broken URL is provided in the Quality element.

This element is categorized as medium priority when:

  • A recommendation is made to change the syntax or content provided the Quality element to improve readability.
  • Granule UR is incorrect for the granule.

Yellow = Medium Priority Finding

Green = No Findings/Issues

The element is provided and follows all applicable criteria specified in the best practices section above.

ARC Automated Rules

If novalue is provided, return is "np."Otherwise, return is "OK."
